Sayword Privacy Policy

Effective date: 27 October 2026 · Last updated: 27 October 2026 · Applies to the Sayword Chrome extension and the Sayword web version at sayword-eight.vercel.app/app

What Sayword does with your text

When you type in a text field on a website, Sayword reads the text of that field and checks its spelling. The check runs on your device, inside your browser. Your text is not sent to us or to any other server. Your writing never leaves your device. The only network requests the extension makes are the Sayword Pro license checks described below, and they never include your text.

Sayword reads only the field you are typing in, not the rest of the page. You can pause Sayword on any website from its toolbar button.

The Sayword web version

The web version at /app is a standalone writing area. The text you type or paste there is checked on your device, in a Web Worker inside your browser. It is never sent to us or to any server, and it is not stored: it is gone when you close or reload the page. The page loads only its own files and is set up to block any other network requests.

Your personal dictionary and your US/UK English choice are saved in your browser's localStorage, on your device only. Clearing this site's data in your browser deletes them.

Voice dictation on the web version is optional and starts only when you press Start dictation. In Chrome, your browser sends your audio to Google's speech service to turn it into text; the audio does not go to Sayword. Read aloud works as described below. The web version has no accounts, cookies, analytics or ads.

What Sayword stores, and where

Sayword saves the following in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local), on your device only:

This data is not synced to your Google account and is not sent to us. You can export it or clear your practice history from the Sayword toolbar button. Removing the extension deletes all of it.

Voice dictation

Voice dictation is optional and starts only when you press the dictation button in the Sayword side panel. The first time, Sayword opens a tab where Chrome asks for permission to use your microphone.

Sayword uses Chrome's built-in Web Speech API to turn speech into text. While you dictate, Chrome sends your audio to Google for speech recognition. Google's handling of that audio is covered by Google's Privacy Policy. Sayword itself does not receive, store or send your audio. The text that comes back is checked on your device like anything else you type.

Read aloud

Read aloud uses your browser's text-to-speech voices. Most run on your device, but some voices in Chrome (those named "Google …") are online voices, and Chrome sends the text being read to Google to produce the speech. The voices available depend on your browser and operating system.

Sayword Pro, the free trial and payments

Spell-checking, explanations, Fix All and the personal dictionary are free and work without contacting any server. Sayword Pro adds voice dictation, read aloud and reading fonts and themes. Pro is a one-time purchase with a 7-day free trial.

Install ID. The first time you start the trial or activate a license key, the extension creates a random install ID (for example 3f2c…). It is not linked to your name, email or Google account. It is sent to our license server at sayword-eight.vercel.app so the server can start your one free trial, confirm your Pro license, and limit a license to 3 browsers. While Pro or the trial is active, the extension re-checks about once a day when you open its popup; offline, Pro keeps working for 14 days.

Buying Pro. When you buy, you enter your email address on our site and pay on Flutterwave's secure payment page. Flutterwave processes your card or bank details under its own privacy policy; we never see your card details. We store your email, the order (amount, currency, status and Flutterwave's transaction ID), a one-way hash of your license key (not the key itself), and the install IDs where the key is active. After your payment is confirmed, your license key is shown to you on our thank-you page; copy it and keep it. We use your email only to try to send you a copy of the key (this is optional and best-effort, and may not arrive) and to answer support or refund requests. Any such email is sent through our email provider, Resend.

Where it is stored. License and order records are kept in our database hosted by Supabase, and the license server runs on Vercel. We keep order records as long as needed for your license, refunds and the law. To ask us to delete your records, email us at the address below.

The web version at /app has no Pro features and makes no license checks.

What Sayword does not do

Children

Spell-checking collects no personal information from anyone, including children. Buying Sayword Pro requires an email address; Pro should be bought by an adult.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
